I had noticed the lights in Customs Plaza when arriving into the city at night, and the next day still found it a striking space. I can’t quite describe it, but it felt like the prefect proportion of space (not too big, not to small), a corner park but not entirely with buildings on the edge, and nicely activated on all sides with opportunities for both noise and quiet. I just got a strange sense “it worked”.
It was funny to hear that the original design had some great grass mounding (which I love) but turns out it was removed and replaced with the flat turf it is today, just because it was easier to maintain and mow. That is a bit of a shame that some innovation can be approved and built and not stay.
