I ventured to Bundaberg for the Artspoken regional arts conference. http://www.arts.qld.gov.au/arts/artspoken/regional-arts-culture-2011.html
While I’m not technically from the arts sector, it was good to hear many of the presentations overlapped with thinking and concepts that apply to good design and planning principles. This included such things as collaboration, community participation, and strategic partnerships etc.
It was interesting to note some points about collaboration. Speakers said it was a concept that is often talked about in arts but there was “elbows out competitiveness” and the need to also see the creative energy in other sectors. In the link between arts and health, someone said a barrier was often “the language of art” and “language of health” that made measuring results and collaborations tricky. This idea of “language” certainly rings true with me in communicating urban design.
