This is a design interview I did with Living Edge, sharing about –
How did you come to be doing what you do? (eg. study, work experience etc…)
Describe a typical working day?
Can you give us a brief rundown of your creative process?
Where do you look for inspiration?
Who do you admire creatively?
What has been a career highlight?
What do you like/dislike about the Australian design industry?
Can you share a goal with us for the future?
What are you reading at the moment?
What’s your favourite piece of furniture?
This was one of the more interesting ones I’ve done, with some really great questions to help me reflect.
It’s a furniture company so the last question about favourite piece of furniture makes perfect sense, but I must admit to feeling a bit “uncool” as all the other profiles named designer furniture, and I could hardly think of furniture I owned.
I thought some were GREAT questions for all designers to ask of themselves and your own work. Namely these:
1) How did you come to be doing what you do?
2) Where do you look for inspiration?
3) Who do you admire creatively?
4) What has been a career highlight?
Seems like everyone has had or is having a “design/career identity crisis” at some point…
I think if/when you lose your way, the answers to those above questions will probably bring you back to your real passions and aspirations. (that’s been my theory, anyway…)
