Red Swing Project

THE RED SWING PROJECT ANONYMOUSLY HANGS RED SWINGS IN PUBLIC PLACES WORLDWIDE INFUSING PLAYFULNESS IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT.

The Red Swing Project started in February 2007 as an urban intervention within the city of Austin, Texas.  Our swings are made of red painted wood and hung using retired rock climbing rope. We strive to positively impact under-utilized public spaces: one swing can turn a vacant lot into a park.

A reminder that the world doesn’t need fancy design.

Sometimes it just needs simplicity and playfulness.   I think about how so often we complicate the world and public space.

Like the park(ing) day format, I also enjoy that this project is showing that meaningful and fun  change can happen with community action and local adaptation of global idea.
