It so innocently started out as a blog post about my London visit to Hyde Park here,
and then SHAZAAM!! (with a UR{BNE} Ideas Cafe), it magically happened in Brisbane.

Occasionally public space activation and guerilla marketing cross over, and most of the time I don’t mind that it does. This was the Myer Centre advertising in a fashion flash-mob type “catwalk” using the Queen St Mall. It made people stop, to watch the spontaneous street “theatre”.

I had spotted this beacon of disco lights as I was walking across Victoria Bridge, only to discover it was the new building on Elizabeth St. From what I can tell it overhangs a shared balcony or pool type space. It did make me look up, so I guess the architects won me at that game.
3 days of Albert St Picnic, and it’s all a blur. Co-managing this for UR{BNE} with BCC, was indeed a learning curve.
It was not always an easy process, but on DAY 2 , I was finally reminded that Albert St is a street closure being explored as a future ‘shared zone” and as a move in just “tactical urbanism” than I think it was a great outcome. This “testing” is what I had always ultimately wanted out of Park(ing) Days.
I wasn’t 100% happy with some aspects, but in the end the photos and public experience tell the story, not me.
A hectic day of Sketchcrawl + UR{BNE} Films, but restored my faith in the madness of why I champion these events.
Next up Albert St Picnic for URBNE

It’s been great to see the Brisbane Festival lanterns popping up again in King George Square and Burnett Lane. I love the simplicity and great visual impact from repeating forms. Lanterns in public space are instant AWESOME.
