Urban design process is really tricky to explain. It never feels the same and never as “linear” as it can be described. It made me feel better about the complexity, when the TED book “Imagine, Design, Create” showed 6 common design processes
- diverge and converge
- waterfall
- cyclical
- discovery
- complex linear
- matrix
This is adapted from a diagram I once saw about prototyping, and for now is the best way I can describe the phases of urban design process to people. It is meant to show that you will often repeat through concept and detail design before you come to resolution
