Vietnam: War Room Maps

During our visit to the Independence Palace, I mostly loved the basement war rooms.  I found then weirdly intriguing space but mostly because I’m a lover of maps.  They had many old school maps used during the war.  Handwritten census population table.  Locations of bases.  All with this handwritten type much like I had learnt in high-school graphics class, and push-pins as map markers.  Totally old-school graphics!  Totally awesome.  MD had once described to me how he use to do urban design plans by hand and the process of making changes by cutting and pasting on top.   I just think how presentation plans and mapping has changed today.  It’s easier, efficient, more accurate with GIS and graphic software for sure but it misses a certain craft, soul and charm of hand drawn.
